Special thanks go to our reference speakers, who lent their voices to the project. Their recordings make it possible to compare the pronunciation of learners with that of first-language speakers on the basis of the same words and sentences, and thus serve as a tertium comparationis. At the same time, they make the diversity of standard pronunciations within each language audible. All standard varieties represented are regarded as equally valid – none is treated as the sole or superordinate pronunciation norm.
